  • ¾ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon fennel
  • Cooking fat (from the meatballs)
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 28 oz. tomato puree
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano (or 4 tablespoons fresh)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
